Second Harvest

"Second Harvest has been privileged to partner with the Richland Fire Department's Community Outreach Program to host annual free mobile market food distributions for local families in need. RFD first responders have demonstrated that they care about the health and well being of members of our local community all the time, not just during crisis situations. Their financial and volunteer support of annual mobile markets are an example of the RFD going above and beyond to serve our community by getting healthy food to local children, families and seniors in need."

Pediatric Visits

"Once a month, Richland Fire & Emergency Services (RFES) stops by the Pediatrics Unit at Kadlec Regional Medical Center to brighten the day of kids and their families. Pulling a little wagon filled with books, toys, games, stuffed animals, and soft blankets, RFES and one of their chaplains stop at pediatric rooms and allow each child/teen to pick out items to keep. Getting to pick out a fun activity or comfort item always brings a smile to the faces of our pediatric patients, and the positive interaction with members of RFES adds joy and variety to a typical day in the hospital. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of those that give to RFES's Community Outreach Program, and for RFES's role in helping kids, teens, and their families at Kadlec."

Communities in Schools of Benton- Franklin

Richland Fire and Emergency Services and Communities in Schools of Benton-Franklin developed a program, titled Fired Up to Read, which sees firefighters visiting five of the eight elementary schools in the city of Richland.  The firefighters read to students that are identified by teachers in an effort to improve their reading skill sets.  This successful program and relationship has led to the Richland Firefighters Community Outreach Program sponsoring a table at the annual Communities in Schools Benton-Franklin benefit breakfast.

Communities in Schools of Benton-Franklin works directly with teachers and staff inside K-12 schools full-time to foster relationships with students.  Their school-based staff work to identify and address challenges students face at school or at home.  Through coordination with community businesses, health care providers, and nonprofits to provide immediate needs like food and clothing or more complex needs such as mentoring and social-emotional support, Communities in Schools Benton-Franklin is there to help students succeed.

Fun Runs events and Other Sponsorships

There are a number of organizations and events that directly give their earnings to their community and the Richland Firefighters Community Outreach Program gladly supports them.  While the events are closely vetted by members of the Community Outreach Board please send requests to any member of Richland Fire and Emergency Services or stop by and visit one of our stations.  We are more than happy to support those that share our our vision in support of our community.

Money Distribution

People who work in Emergency Services understand the need for immediate action and in this case the support of those in need.  That is why Richland Fire and Emergency Services have the ability to give direct cash donations to those in need for specific reasons.  These reasons include a hotel room for those affected by  a fire, clothing or diapers for those falling on hard times, or simply a bus pass so a member of our community can get where they need to go.  These are all at the discretion of the on duty crews but we have seen some amazing reactions of appreciation for the extended support services we provide.
